all this useless beauty
Meetings continue. Up ‘til 2 a.m. writing. Up at 7:30 to edit and get to a 9:30 meeting. Sat in committee all day. Typed 23 pages of notes on the committee’s work. We convene from our 90-minute dinner break at 7:30, and won’t go home ‘til the details are hashed out.
The committee I’m covering had the opportunity to do something beautiful — rewrite our Book of Order to make it more flexible and missional. A Task Force prepared a beautiful 114-page document that begins with language that is downright devotional.
The committee never opened the document.
I’m not supposed to have an opinion about it because it is what I am reporting on, but I am sad that all of their lovely work is simply being referred to presbyteries for study, which many say will mean it will come to nothing at all.
